We went here because Mr. Max had a long wait, and we hadn't tried this place yet. It was really great! Authentic Japanese tapas style items, grilled mackerel, full bar, sushi/sashimi selection is pretty decent.
Everything tasted great, no issue and the service was friendly and warm.
We will definitely be back! -

Great little Japanese in South Irving. The fish is very fresh and portions are good. I got the Chirashi Ju half salad and half rice. It was a good amount of food for lunch and came with a cup of miso soup. I highly recommend this sushi spot in S. Irving when you cant get a reservation to Mr. Max for dinner. Really affordable and wont break your bank for a good sushi meal.
Just came again for lunch. My dad had the sashimi special $20. You get 4 kinds of fish, miso soup, salad and rice. I got the sushi bento box which also came with rice, soup and salad. Delicious and affordable sushi! -

Hanaki seems to be a very authentic Japanese restaurant. The flavors are there, and the food is fresh. The only thing that was disappointing to me was the lack of variety in terms of proteins for what I really wanted-- the ramen and the dumplings. All of them have pork. In every single ramen dish and dumpling. Also, this restaurant is extremely quiet. There is not background noise, or music. There's a tv going but it's muted. And all the other patrons are Japanese. So if you have two even mildly noisy kids, and mine are definitely above "mildly"... it's noticeable. This place is good for adult groups but not families. The service is prompt, the food comes out fast, they are very respectful and nice here. The restaurant is so clean. There are a lot of perks. I was just disappointed by the sheer number of dishes I couldn't have due to the pork, which is why I knocked it down 2 stars.
We got Eel sushi, very fresh and delicious.
Seaweed salad, also fresh and tasted perfect.
Rainbow roll, looked beautiful and tasted great
Spicy tuna roll. Also very nice
They also served a miso soup. -

Our first time here. It was 8:45 pm looking for a new place to eat at. Was craving sushi and chicken teriyaki. We passed this place and it was open. We went in and was greeted immediately. They brought our menus and then shortly after the drinks. We decided to try yaki tare as appetizer. So delicious! And i ordered chicken teriyaki bento box and my husband ordered the curry. Both were amazing! Came with miso soup which i love and salad and rice and so much more . Couldnt finish it all. I was so full. Waitress would come and check on us often which we appreciate and at the end gave us a free scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. The people are great and environment is wonderful. Will be coming back! :)

Wow, what a sensational find Hanaki is. I could elaborate (and rave) on the nigiri, sashimi, takoyaki, the miso salmon bento box, the superior service, the authentic seating and much more.
The only (and I mean only) downside is the location. It's situated in a baaaaaaad part of Irving but not a dealbreaker.
What you need to do is make immediate plans to come to Hanaki, ASAP. Thank you bearrry much and see you soon. (-:
